Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
It is now week two of the academic school year here at Ohio Northern University and still not much has happened. I've mostly spent my time attending classes and meetings while finding time to spend with my friends. Last year my friends and I would get ourselves into whatever we could find but this year has been a bit different. We are busier now compared to last year but we still find time to spend together. So, I am going to take my second blog and share another experience I had over the summer.
Growing up I always loved music but I was into the more pop genre. My dad spent a lot of time trying to get me to like rock and I just never did. The older I got the more my taste began to broaden and I started liking soft rock but none of the metal stuff. He still tried and tried but to no avail. Once I got into high school I started listening to a couple metal songs, but I was always one to focus on the lyrics of a song not so much the instruments. It wasn't until I came to ONU and met some friends that play the guitar that I started to appreciate that aspect of the music. I even started to learn myself and now I primarily listen to rock and metal. Well over the summer I had the opportunity to go to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. I was so excited because since I started listening to that type of music I have always wanted to go. It ended up being so much fun and getting to see all of the iconic instruments and outfits not only throughout rock history but music in general. There was so much more there than just rock stuff. The beginning section was all Hip-Hop dedicated. I got to see some of the instruments and outfits worn from some of my favorite bands and artists like Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day, Pantera, Van Halen, Alice In Chains and more. I even got to cast my vote for someone to be inducted that hasn't yet, I chose Megadeth.
I would recommend anyone that is interested in music history, especially rock, to check it out. I will never forget my time there and will for sure get back up there and go again because they are constantly changing things and getting new pieces. The picture I have provided is a guitar used by Kurt Cobain on Nirvana's "In Utero" tour. During the performance in the L.A. Forum on December 30, 1993, Kurt smashed his guitar and proceeded to grab a drill and drilled through where the pickups are and lifted the guitar up and spin it on the drill. Apparently, it was to impress Eddie Van Halen who was in attendance that night. Pretty cool!
I wish I had "not much going on" in my first two weeks! Enjoy the free time! This experienced had to be so full circle for you! I know you have always loved this stuff and I will never forget you shopping for guitars in multiple different classes!
ReplyDeleteIsaac, what an awesome experience you had this summer going to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland! Learning about music history is so interesting! Happy to hear you are staying busy this semester and hopefully you can keep learning new songs on the guitar during downtime! Great post!
