As discussed in my blog from two weeks ago, I needed to go home and take the time to visit. This past weekend, I did just that. For being my small, "boring" hometown, I actually had a very eventful weekend full of good people and great memories.

The weekend started out on Friday, as most weekends do, with me packing up from school and heading south. I arrived at home ready for a break. I brought Pearl with me because we had a new kitten at home, and I wanted to try the introduction process since Pearl will be staying at the house during breaks from school. While the baby kitten had no problem, I can’t say the same for Pearl. She seemed curious at times, but other times she would swat at the kitten and hiss. I wish she would have gotten along better, but Pearl can be a bit mean. The day turned to night, and I went to the local bar, Cranberry, because they were showing the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight. I’m only 19, so I just enjoyed water, but all my hometown friends came as well, and we watched the event at Cranberry until the main fight. For the actual fight, we went to one of my friend’s houses to hang out. Jake Paul won, which was disappointing, as I think the entire United States was rooting for him. I went home, ready to start the next day.

Saturday rolled in, and it was feeling like a lazy day. I mostly slept and watched The Ohio State game until the night came. My dad and younger brother were hunting all day, so I didn’t do much other than lay in bed and watch movies. Around 4 p.m., we got a call that my brother had shot a deer—a big one—and we needed to decide whether to try and get it out of the woods that night or the next morning. We decided to go early the next morning, since it was already getting dark. We went out to dinner at a barbecue place in town. It was alright, but not as good as advertised. I then went over to my friend’s house to watch the UFC fights that night, as some of my favorite fighters were competing. Jon Jones, Charles Oliveira, and Bo Nickal all won their fights in dominant fashion, making for a good card.

We woke up bright and early on Sunday to go and get the deer. The picture doesn’t do it justice, but this buck was huge. Even after it was gutted, it still had to be around 230 pounds. We drove a four-wheeler out but couldn’t even lift it onto the back of it. We ended up using a makeshift sled, which worked pretty well. When we got it back to the truck, I had to lift it into the bed mostly by myself because I thought my dad was paying attention, but he wasn’t, so I lifted it alone. We took the deer to get processed and the head mounted, so it will be exciting to see it when it’s finished.

All in all, it was a pretty good weekend, and I am looking forward to spending the entire week at home.

  1. I love all of the photos! Maybe not the last one but that's just because that stuff freaks me out. I am glad you went home and had a memorable time. I want to meet your brother!! I am sure it was so fun for you to see your cats be together. Hope you are excited for the holidays and the ability to spend more time there!
